Canterbury's original Float Club

Cloud 9 Float Club is the home of flotation therapy in Canterbury. We've been helping the people of Canterbury use flotation therapy to escape, beat stress, reduce anxiety and build resilience since April 2016.

Our Vision of Flotation Therapy

Our core purpose is to facilitate a space for retreat and wellbeing. In a frantic world of non-stop technology and pressure at work or home, we have curated a safe, immersive haven where you can truly rest, relieve and improve. Flotation is a tool that can be used for short-term relief or long-term resilience, allowing you to adapt and thrive in the modern world.

Floating is a non invasive, alternative therapy for people to remove themselves from their everyday environment, replenish their reserves and regulate their nervous system. Increasing their capacity to navigate challenging circumstances.

WHAT IS FLOTATION

The Flotation Experience

Flotation therapy is a holistic restoration tool designed to allow the mind and the body freedom from tension and overstimulation. It involves lying effortlessly for just under an hour in a concentrated solution of epsom salts and pure water set at skin temperature inside a large ‘pod’ designed to restrict light and sound. It is a unique experience, even the buoyancy alone is an enjoyable sensation.    

How Flotation works

Lying weightless in your float pod in silence and darkness, your nervous, skeletal and muscular systems can surrender to profound relaxation. Muscles release fully, blood circulation is improved, heart rate lowers, pain and inflammation are reduced.

Flotation therapy shields the mind from external stress factors that constantly bombard our senses and contribute to most of our physical and mental energy consumption. In this state your mind recognises that there is no external threat and your body enters recovery mode.

What Flotation does

The natural response to this true rest is to gently slide into a deep, open meditation. In flotation, your mind is in the optimum state to plan, reflect and problem solve calmly, developing insights to daily problems. Floating regularly has been shown to alleviate chronic pain disorders, improve muscle recovery post-workout, prevent burnout and reduce anxiety. For approximately an hour your body is completely still and all tension dissolves leaving it in a state of relief unlike any other.
